Photos incoming

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved taking photos. And hopefully that means I’ll regularly be sharing photos here, too.

I’m a photographer’s son and for as long as I can remember, I’ve loved taking photos. (I’m also a music teacher’s son, but much to my mom’s chagrin all I play these days is the stereo.) I can’t claim to be an expert at it: I haven’t studied any theory, taken any classes, or spent any time directly from anybody’s tutelage other than tossing questions over to my dad once in a while. But I know what’s aesthetically pleasing to me in a viewfinder and that’s what propels me. It’s maybe the only visual art I feel competent at creating.

I use Nikon gear; earlier last year I graduated from a D5600 (an upper-entry level DX-crop DSLR) to a  (a mid-level full-frame mirrorless camera) as my daily driver. I currently make use of a 40mm ƒ/2, a 24-70mm ƒ/4 S, and a 100-400mm ƒ/4.5-5.6 S (all Nikkor Z lenses) roughly equally; if I had to pick a favorite, I’d offer the 24-70mm due to the versatility and value it offers me. And I’m a follower of Thom Hogan’s zsystemuser.com website for lens reviews and commentary.

For years I’ve kept a Flickr presence, but even then that’s a bit more of a dumping ground for me than a finely-curated selection. What I aim to do is select 4-6 photos at a time and share them here in a new post for each session. One day I’d like to keep a specific portfolio, but that’s likely something I’ll code myself since I’m not terribly happy with any of the free self-hosted solutions that exist out there. In lieu of sharing these on social media (which I’m slowly divesting myself from), I hope you’ll enjoy them here.
